Some of my short films.

Garvey and Sayers.

One of my aims as director was to work closely with the actors and the three of us bought the story to life through several rehearsals. The camaraderie between Garvey and Sayers is a result of working with Alan and Brendan to find their characters within themselves.

Owls and Parrots.

This short autobiography derived from my interest in my scripts and films conveying 'alternative', realistic dialogue -- the cadence, syntax and errors rarely heard on film. It's an experiment in exploratory filmmaking and the role of dialogue in autobiography.

Drew.

Drew is based on my experience dealing with Sitophobia (a fear of eating in public). The challenge in wanting to meet someone special through dating, but also trying to avoid going out for dinner inherently had comedy and conflict as a story.

“I've listened to Owls & Parrots about three times and cried every time. A truly powerful piece of work that resonated with my own experience of undiagnosed dyslexia.”

Aroma.

I was commissioned by The Pensive Federation to write a short ten-minute play for their show The Collective Project. The Pensive Federation process is to produce eight plays in 12 days. It's a rewarding and exciting process and I would recommend it to anyone. Each short play starred eight actors. A key finding from me was developing my ideas of forming a play based on the actors. I believe casting is so important to any play or film, so no point in developing a story where the actors playing the parts are not believable.

Overcast.

After the success of Aroma, The Pensive Federation asked me to write for Significant Other: Conditions. A similar process to The Collective Project: there is a stimulus - the title (each one a weather condition) and some props. The key was the relationships - and basing a story around the 'magic in the mundane'. Performed at The Vaults Theatre, Waterloo, London.

“Overcast by Rob Greens had me in a combination of laughter and deep thought.”
